Tuffy - UX Case Study

The client was receiving negative feedback from customers about the outdated ordering process. They also noted that the look and feel had not been updated in nearly seven years. The site was non-responsive and simply wasn’t “keeping with the competition” My objective was to create a fresh new site that made it supper simple to order form the multitude of catalogues.

Owner Interview

All successful websites start by answering the most fundamental question; Why are we doing this? What problem does it solve? Who will benefit from our efforts? With Tuffy we uncovered that by recreating the site to allow customers / vendors to quickly process orders in a modern way will allow the client to scale its sales operation and increase revenue.

User Personas

Who is this site for? The end user is the driver of any successful website. I created three personas that represent the main three user architypes. It is important to always keep in mind who will be using the site once it finished. Design with the end user in mind.

PERSONAS

User Flow

I generated user flow diagrams and documentation to answer these fundamental questions about the end user personas. What is the end user trying to accomplish by using your site now? What are the three most important ideas we want to communicate? How can we give the user confidence to perform desired action? What are the barriers to accomplishing user goals? Once we know these things I can Taylor the site design to the end user with full confidence that it will drive conversions.

Wireframes

I generated a set of wireframes and the extended sitemap providing a blueprint for the site structure and content layouts. The wireframes were updated as changes to the scope happened during the planning process. Having clear understanding of exactly what content goes on each page gave the customer the “warm fuzzies” knowing that all requested features and content was accounted for.

High-Fidelity Mockups

Once I had all previous planning done I started generating photoshop mockups. This gave the customer further assurance that we where all on the same page before delving into the code. Nearly every project I have ever had the project owner needed to have a fingerprint on the design. This process allows for me to finetune the design and assure the customer we are on the same page.

Scope Documentation

I created a package including a detailed scope of work that included all above-mentioned documentation plus a breakdown of technology recommendations, components intended, and image specifications.
